Children Paper Theater

Paper Theater User Guide

We are excited to introduce you to Paper Theater and show you how to use it for a truly magical storytelling experience!

Every parent and educator enjoys telling stories to children. Because in addition to its soothing and tension-relieving effects, a story is capable of much more: it contains the teachings necessary for emotional healing. With the help of large movable panels within a wooden frame, the storyteller faces the children and, through the manipulation of the panels, the resulting playfulness and its dramatic impact turn the traditional act of reading a story into a genuine theatrical experience. This technique makes the illustrations clearly visible to everyone, allowing attention to be focused simultaneously on both the pictures and the text of the story. The storyteller can effectively present the text written on the back of the panels to the audience. There is no longer a need to interrupt the reading or pass the book around; every listener can enjoy the text of the story and the accompanying illustrations at the same time. As a pedagogical and engaging tool, this theater technique works exceptionally well because it can be expanded and easily created within the household by children themselves, with their own illustrations. These homemade versions can then be effortlessly inserted into the frame and used for future shared reading sessions.

What is the paper theater?

The storyteller can transform traditional storytelling into a truly theatrical experience using large movable cards within a wooden frame (or ‘butai’), facing the child who is watching.
Most importantly, the paper theater maximizes children’s attention by making the images clearly visible to all. This allows for simultaneous focus on both the images and the text. The narrator can deliver the text of the tale, printed on the back of the cards, to their audience with all the necessary impact. There is no longer a need to interrupt reading to pass the book around, and now every child can enjoy both the text of the story and the accompanying illustrations. The pictures tell a story – each illustration brings an element of the tale to life. The images occupy the entire card and are presented facing the audience. This documentation was compiled by teachers and child psychologists for research purposes, demonstrating the effectiveness of the paper theater in education. You can now review the detailed results of the study to see the positive impacts of this tool. https://childrenpapertheater.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Childrenpapertheater-compressed.pdf
